About the President's Council

The Buffalo State President’s Council on Equity and Campus Diversity was established in 1996 to address discrimination, harassment, and campus climate issues as they relate to recruitment and retention of students, faculty, staff curriculum development, and student life on campus. Additionally, the role of the PCECD is to develop and advance initiatives that build and strengthen the educational, organizational, and institutional climate with respect to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The PCECD’s mission and values involve a commitment to:

  • Transparency and the collection and dissemination of pertinent information;
  • Inclusivity with representation in decision-making and governance:
  • Community building.
  • Interconnectedness.
  • Accessibility

 The PCECD evaluates strategies and policies related to enhancing diversity, improving inclusion and supporting the College’s continued commitment to social justice. The President receives and reviews recommendations from the council. The Chief Diversity Officer serves as Staff Liaison and the Office of Institutional Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion provides administrative support.
