The Special Program Recognition Award was established by the 2006-2007 President's Council on Equity and Campus Diversity.
The award was created to recognize those programs which have made a special effort to promote equity and diversity through student involvement, curricular development, and/or special projects and activities that go above and beyond what is usually expected as part of their regular function. This award honors the nominee who recognizes an opportunity to share the value of diversity on campus and carries out the same.
The Special Program Recognition Award is part of the Dr. Muriel A. Howard Presidential Awards for Equity and Campus Diversity.
The recipients are honored at the annual Muriel A. Howard Diversity Recognition Ceremony that takes place in April of the spring semester.
The 2016-2017 Recognition Ceremony took place on April 11, 2017. The nominator, Arlesa Shephard, Ph.D., Fashion and Textile Technology, accepted the award on behalf of the recipient, Keunyoung Oh, Ph.D., for her “New World, New Wardrobe” clothing drive service project. Dr. Oh was on a sabbatical leave during the 2016-2017 academic year.
